Man Who Said He'd "Just Check One Email" Now Entering Third Fiscal Quarter

ST. GEORGE, UT

ST. GEORGE, UT — A local man who told his family he would "just check one email real quick" before dinner in March is now entering his third fiscal quarter at the kitchen table, sources confirmed Tuesday.

"He said five minutes," said his wife, Carla Thistlewood, 43, gesturing to a plate of lasagna that has since been declared a historical artifact. "That was two birthdays and a tax season ago."

The man, Wade Thistlewood, 44, reportedly opened a single message titled "Quick question," which led to a reply-all thread, a calendar invite, three attachments, and a shared spreadsheet that has since become self-aware.

"I'm almost done," Thistlewood said, without looking up. "I just need to respond to this one, then circle back on that, then loop in Jeff."

Family members say Thistlewood has missed a graduation, a family reunion, and the full run of a streaming series he had been "saving for when things calm down."

Experts say the condition is common. "The 'one email' is the most dangerous unit of time known to science," said productivity researcher Dana Whitcomb, 39. "It has no defined length. It only ends when the inbox does, and the inbox does not end."

At press time, Thistlewood had reached inbox zero for 1.4 seconds before receiving an email titled "Following up on my last email."
